Guaranteed Trust Bank (GTBank) is currently facing significant operational challenges following its promise of a major system overhaul. The bank announced a complete transformation of its banking system, scheduled to take place from October 11th to October 14th, 2024. However, the transition has led to severe disruptions, leaving countless customers unable to carry out transactions since the upgrade began.

The situation escalated when GTBank implemented a total shutdown of operations across all its branches, with customers arriving at closed doors, unable to access basic banking services. The chaos has led to frustration among clients, some of whom have been seen protesting and threatening to damage the bank’s property in various locations across Nigeria.

Many customers, stranded in front of GTBank branches, voiced their dissatisfaction, expressing outrage over the lack of communication and transparency from the bank. The disruptions have severely impacted individuals and businesses alike, as millions of customers rely on the bank for their daily transactions.

The crisis has also propelled GTBank to the top of trending topics on X (formerly Twitter), where frustrated users continue to share their experiences with the ongoing system failure.

One user commented:
> “GTBank is misleading customers by claiming their systems are back online—this is false! I just finished a 12-minute call with their customer service, and the representative confirmed that the system is still undergoing upgrades.”

Another user, Awulu Attah (@attah_awulu), wrote:
> “I just left their branch and nothing is working there, just like the app.”

Meanwhile, Chief Cregan Stark (@ajulunzewi) added insights into the technical complexities of the situation, saying:
> “They are probably running manually right now. The communication says branches are open and silent on Digital Channels. Typically, channel integrations are the most difficult part of any core banking migration.”

As the situation unfolds, the lack of clarity from GTBank on when full services will be restored continues to frustrate customers and create uncertainty, leaving many stranded and businesses stalled.
