A disturbing video has emerged showing personnel of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Army assaulting two civilians in the Oloko area of Badagry, Lagos State. The incident reportedly occurred after the victims attempted to record footage in a known smuggling zone.

In the video obtained by *SaharaReporters*, a customs officer and a soldier were seen brutally beating the two men. The customs officer accused one of the victims of exposing smuggling activities in the area.

During the assault, the customs officer could be heard saying, “The question I’m asking you is: the controller who helps you to make a living, has he done you wrong? Your boss, Tunde, who you follow—how much has he given you? If you’re not in good terms with Tunde, why are you making this video?”

Speaking partly in Hausa, the customs officer instructed the soldier to intensify the beating, threatening the victim with severe consequences if he did not provide satisfactory answers. “Wallahi-tallahi, if you don’t tell me the truth, you will suffer,” the officer said.

The victims could be heard shouting in pain as the assault continued. At one point, the customs officer bragged about helping the alleged smuggling ringleader, saying, “You will regret this. I helped Tunde travel to South Africa; go and ask him, and he will tell you.”

Despite the victims’ denials of any wrongdoing, the assault persisted. One of the men was beaten to the point of severe physical distress.

Prominent investigative journalist Fisayo Soyombo highlighted the incident on social media, calling on the Nigerian Customs Service to avoid actions that could incite public outrage.

“Good morning, @customsNG. In the videos below, one of your men, known as ‘Aboribo Custom,’ is seen brutalizing two civilians for attempting to record videos in a smuggling zone in Oloko, Badagry. What secrets are you hiding around Customs checkpoints to justify such brutality?

“Learn from the events that triggered #EndSARS; stop provoking the people,” Soyombo wrote via his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday.

The incident has sparked public condemnation, with calls for accountability and immediate disciplinary action against the implicated officers.
