Several students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) were reportedly trapped when a three-storey building collapsed on Ekhator Street, Ekosodin, a popular student residential area in Edo State.

The collapse occurred following a heavy downpour earlier this morning in Benin City, leaving many students trapped under the debris. Emergency services and university rescue teams were quickly dispatched to the scene in an effort to save those affected.

According to one of the students, who requested anonymity, rescue teams successfully pulled some occupants from the rubble, but many sustained severe injuries. The extent of the damage and the number of casualties are yet to be confirmed as rescue operations continue. Authorities have expressed concern about the structural integrity of buildings in the area, urging for stricter enforcement of construction regulations to prevent future tragedies.

This rewrite provides more context and urgency, along with a professional tone.
