The Oyo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing the welfare of pensioners, seeking to tap into their wealth of experience to inform policy decisions.

The pledge was made by Governor Seyi Makinde, during a “Thank You Rally” organized by the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Chapter, in appreciation of Governor Seyi Makinde’s magnanimity towards the state pensioners

On Thursday some members of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Oyo State Chapter in their thousands gathered at the frontage of the Governor’s Office Agodi Ibadan to express gratitude to governor Seyi Makinde on the recent pension review in the state, Which has increased the monthly pension of the lowest-earning pensioners in Oyo state to ₦25,000.
Addressing the elated Pensioners, the state governor Engineer Seyi Makinde, represented by his deputy, Barrister Bayo-Lawal, noted that the state Pensioners have served and paid their dues accordingly, hence the need to prioritize their welfare.

While pledging that the present administration would not owe any pensioner a dime at the end of its tenure, Governor Makinde who described their gesture as unprecedented, charged them to always channel their demands through appropriate quarters.
Delivering his speech titled “Resurrected Pensioners in Oyo state Appreciate Engineer Seyi Makinde” the state Secretary NUP, Comrade Segun Abatan, described the pension review as “unprecedented” noting that the review has not only improved the livelihoods of pensioners but also boosted market activities due to increased spending power.
The appreciation rally had in attendance the secretary to the state government, Prof Olanike Adeyemo, the Head of service, Mrs olubunmi oni, and some other political functionaries.
