Nigerian security agencies have been urged to consider dialogue as a strategic approach to combat the rising incidents of kidnapping and other criminal activities across the country. This recommendation was made by Barrister Fatai Adeshina, a former lawmaker in the Oyo State House of Assembly, following his appearance on Success FM’s political program, *Gbangba Òṣèlú*.
Adeshina, a retired banker, emphasized the need for security chiefs to move beyond making mere policy statements and instead focus on intelligence-driven actions that could yield more effective results. He advocated for proactive engagement with terrorists and criminal elements, suggesting that dialogue could be a key strategy to de-escalate violence and enhance security efforts.
In his remarks, Adeshina also discussed the economic implications of Nigeria’s current security challenges. He argued that reducing petrol prices would be a critical step towards stabilizing the cost of goods and services in the country. According to him, such a move would alleviate the economic burden on Nigerians, who are currently grappling with inflation and other economic pressures. He called on the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to ensure that their policies do not exacerbate the difficulties faced by the public.
Furthermore, Adeshina encouraged the federal government and security agencies to revisit past measures that were successfully implemented during similar security crises in Nigeria’s history. He suggested that learning from previous approaches could provide valuable insights and strategies for addressing the current wave of insecurity, urging a return to comprehensive and effective methods for safeguarding lives and property.
