The Super Eagles of Nigeria have received a significant boost ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda, with the return of Ola Aina to full fitness.
The 26-year-old defender had recently suffered an ankle injury during Nottingham Forest’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, which saw him forced off the pitch in the 54th minute, replaced by Harry Toffolo. The injury had initially raised concerns about his availability for the crucial qualifiers.
However, Aina made a strong comeback by playing the full 90 minutes in Nottingham Forest’s 1-0 victory over Southampton this past Saturday, alleviating fears about his fitness. His return to action has bolstered hopes for the Super Eagles, as he is now expected to be included in the squad for the upcoming matches.
Nigeria is set to host Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, September 7th, before traveling to Kigali, Rwanda, where they will face the Rwandan national team at the Amahoro Stadium three days later. The presence of Aina, a versatile and experienced defender, is likely to strengthen the Super Eagles’ defense as they aim to secure their qualification for the 2025 AFCON tournament.
