The Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State has proactively implemented measures to prevent a cholera outbreak within the council area. This response comes in light of recent cholera outbreaks in neighboring states, including Ogun and Lagos, and the ongoing Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
Ido Local Government Information Officer, Bello Ademola Jeleel, made this announcement in a statement on Monday morning.
Council Chairman, Hon. Sheriff Adeojo, expressed his concern about the potential health threat, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the residents of Ido Local Government. Considering the close proximity to Ogun State and the frequent interactions between Ido and Odeda local government residents, preventive actions have been prioritized.
The Ido Local Government is committed to ensuring that communities, villages, markets, public places, and public basic schools adopt measures to maintain a healthy and safe environment.
The preventive measures outlined by Ido Local Government include:
1. Ensuring access to safe drinking water.
2. Practicing proper sanitation, including thorough hand-washing.
3. Maintaining personal hygiene.
4. Handling food safely by washing fruits and vegetables properly before consumption.
5. Cooking food thoroughly before eating.
6. Avoiding roadside foods and drinking untreated water.
Hon. Sheriff Adeojo urged residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of cholera. He assured that the local government will provide further updates as necessary to keep the community informed and safe.
The council is dedicated to protecting the health of its residents and preventing any potential cholera outbreaks by promoting these essential preventive measures.
