Former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, has expressed his interest in returning to manage the Nigerian national team. This comes as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) continues its search for a new head coach, following the departure of former international winger, Finidi George, two months ago.
Siasia, who previously played as a striker for FC Nantes in France, revealed his eagerness to take on the role once more, despite having served a five-year ban from football due to allegations of match-fixing. His ban, initially imposed by FIFA, was later reduced to five years by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), a sanction that expired in 2024, thereby allowing him to resume his coaching career.
The 57-year-old is no stranger to the Super Eagles, having managed the team on two separate occasions in the past. Siasia first took charge of the national team in 2010, and again in 2016, during which he led the Super Eagles through various international tournaments and qualifiers. His tenure as coach was marked by his commitment to developing young talents and his tactical approach to the game.
Siasia’s potential return comes at a critical time for Nigerian football, as the Super Eagles prepare for upcoming international competitions. With his wealth of experience and deep understanding of the Nigerian football landscape, many believe that Siasia could bring stability and renewed vigor to the team.
As the NFF continues its deliberations on appointing a new head coach, Siasia’s candidacy adds an intriguing option to the mix, especially given his previous successes and the redemption story following his suspension. Nigerian football fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if the NFF will give Siasia another chance to lead the Super Eagles.
