The Executive Chairman of Ido Local Government, Hon. Sheriff Aderemi Adeojo, has established a committee to foster peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders within the local government area.
The decision to form the committee was made during the August edition of the local government’s Peace and Security meeting, which was presided over by the Chairman at the Local Government Secretariat. Hon. Adeojo stated that the committee, which will be inaugurated soon, is tasked with investigating the underlying causes of tension between farmers and herders. Its aim is to address potential conflicts and restore peace and harmony within the affected communities and the broader local government area.
Hon. Adeojo commended the security operatives in the local government for their efforts in maintaining peace in their respective areas. He emphasized that the purpose of the monthly Peace and Security meetings is to develop strategies to safeguard the lives and properties of the residents of Ido Local Government.
The Chairman also urged non-conventional security operatives to collaborate closely with conventional security agencies to proactively address and prevent security challenges. Additionally, he announced plans to establish a mini-security post at Elenu-shonsho and other developing areas within the local government’s jurisdiction.
The meeting was attended by several key stakeholders, including the Local Government Vice Chairman, Barrister Olayemi Oluwashina; Leader of the Legislative House, Hon. Adebowale Adedeji; Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Olaronke Ige; Director of Administration and General Services, Mrs. Wilcox; and Director of Finance & Supplies. Also present were Divisional Police Officers from stations within the jurisdiction, officers from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Immigration, Federal Road Safety Commission, and others.
