A team of government officials, led by the Chairman of the Oyo State Agency for Youth Development, Hon. Adebowale Adebayo Falana, visited the long-abandoned Youth Center in Durbar, Oyo township yesterday.
Following his recent visit to the Ibadan Youth Center, this visit was part of a fact-finding mission to assess the facility’s condition and explore ways to revitalize it, as detailed in a press release signed by Opeyemi Rasheed Olawale, Media Head to the Chairman, Oyo State Agency for Youth Development.
The Durbar Youth Center, once a vibrant hub for young people in the community, has been abandoned for over a decade. The uncompleted building has fallen into severe disrepair, with crumbling walls, no roof, overgrown grounds, and unsafe, rusted playground equipment.
Prince Adebowale Adebayo emphasized that the visit aligns with His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE’s mission to empower youths through training, skills acquisition, and government support for youth in technology and entrepreneurship. This initiative aims to create further opportunities for partnering with young entrepreneurs.
During the visit, the Chairman and officials witnessed the state of disrepair firsthand and vowed to take immediate action to restore the facility and develop programs and services for young people. “We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for our young people,” Adebowale said. “This visit has shown us the urgent need for investment in this facility, and we will work tirelessly to make it happen.”
The officials also met with local youth and community leaders, who expressed their enthusiasm for the project and offered their support. “This Youth Center was once the heart of our community,” said one resident. “We are thrilled to see the government taking steps to bring it back to life.”
The revitalization of the Youth Center is expected to have a positive impact on the community, providing a safe space for young people to learn, grow, and develop their skills. The government plans to work with local organizations to offer programs such as mentorship, job training, and sports leagues.
The visit and subsequent promises have raised hopes in the community that the Youth Center will once again become a vibrant hub of activity, providing a brighter future for the young people of Oyo township.
Present at the visitation were Oyo State Youth Agency directors and coordinators. Other attendees included Hon. Wahab Daud Temitope, Engr. Femi Afolabi, Hon. Sakiru Ojo, members of the Oyo East Local Government Legislative Arms, and several others.
