The Executive Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, Hon. Mudashiru Kamorudeen, on Thursday, attended a special program organized by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in partnership with the Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA). The event, also involving the three local government areas of Lagelu, Egbeda, and Ona-Ara, focused on advocacy for early actions and preparedness against flooding disasters that frequently impact local communities.
The event took place at NUT Hall, Aba-Emu in Ona-Ara Local Government, and was attended by representatives from NEMA, SEMA, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, and the executive chairmen and principal officers of Ona-Ara, Lagelu, and Egbeda.
The program aimed to provide critical insights into future preparedness strategies against flooding disasters in grassroots communities.
In his remarks, Hon. Kamorudeen highlighted the severe impact and challenges posed by flooding, noting that such disasters can cause millions of naira in damage to local communities. He stressed the importance of collective action and comprehensive response measures among government agencies at all levels.
“Flooding is one of the most impactful and challenging emergencies to prepare for and respond to,” said Kamorudeen. “Given the severity of past flooding disasters and their widespread effects on local communities and households, it is crucial to have a coordinated effort between various levels of government to protect the physical environment and prepare constituents to react appropriately to flooding events.”
The chairman further outlined his administration’s commitment to taking flood-resilience plans and advocacy efforts to areas and communities within his local government.
