Palace Politics: Oba Ghandi Clarifies Chief Imam Appointment Amid Controversy

The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi, has officially installed Habib Ayilara as the Chief Imam of the Soun Palace mosque.

Oba Afolabi clarified that the newly installed Chief Imam is solely responsible for leading prayers at the mosque within the Soun’s Palace. He emphasized that this appointment does not imply the removal of the Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, Sheikh Teliat Ayilara, whose case is currently pending in court.

The Soun of Ogbomosoland also issued a warning to those attempting to create a religious controversy over the matter. He pointed out that the throne of Soun of Ogbomosoland is traditionally rooted, originally founded by Soun Ogunlola, who was a pure traditionalist and worshipped the Ogun deity.

Oba Ghandi Afolabi stressed the importance of respecting the cultural and traditional foundations of the throne while urging the public not to misconstrue the recent developments with religious sentiments.
