The Oyo State Government has inaugurated a 12-member Staff Audit Committee to conduct a comprehensive review of the workforce at The Polytechnic, Ibadan. The committee was inaugurated on Tuesday at the institution’s Board of Studies Chamber by the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu.

Prof. Adelabu emphasized that the exercise is not aimed at targeting or witch-hunting any staff member but is designed to enhance the institution’s operations and ensure accurate staff records. He assured employees that the audit would strengthen the government’s ability to meet staff needs effectively.

“The staff audit is essential for accurate statistics of all genuinely employed personnel to enable adequate planning. This is an annual necessity in institutions where recruitment, retirements, and resignations are continuous processes,” he stated.

Prof. Adelabu highlighted the importance of data-driven decision-making in governance, stressing that accurate staff records will aid efficient planning and resource allocation. He tasked the committee with completing its assignment within two weeks and urged its members to approach their work diligently and sensitively.

The committee, chaired by Dr. Bisi Ojebola, pledged to carry out the task with fairness and diligence. Dr. Ojebola assured the institution’s staff that the exercise was intended to support the workforce and improve institutional operations.

“The committee is committed to executing its responsibilities with the fear of God and with fairness to all,” he said.

Acting Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Dr. Taiwo Lasis, welcomed the initiative, describing the staff audit as long overdue. He noted that the exercise would provide valuable insights into the institution’s strengths and areas needing improvement.

Dr. Lasis reassured employees that the audit aims to strengthen the institution’s capacity to achieve its goals and should not be viewed with suspicion.

The staff audit, which seeks to align records with current realities, is expected to yield accurate and actionable data to improve administrative efficiency at The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
