Oyo State Set to Revolutionize Agriculture with UK Partnership

Oyo State is poised to revolutionize its agriculture sector through a groundbreaking partnership with the United Kingdom Agritech Centre. This collaborative effort aims to harness science and technology-based solutions to boost agriculture and livestock production in the state.

At the heart of this partnership is the establishment of an Agritech Hub within one of Oyo State’s Agribusiness Industrial Hubs. This hub will serve as a nerve center for innovation, providing practitioners with access to cutting-edge resources and opportunities in agricultural technology.

The partnership is the result of a visit by a UK delegation, led by Mr. Mark Smithson, Director of the UK Department of Business and Trades in Nigeria, to Oyo State Governor ‘Seyi Makinde. The delegation comprised agribusiness experts, academics, and representatives from the UK Agritech Centre.

According to Dr. Debo Akande, Executive Adviser to the Oyo State Governor on Agribusiness, the construction of the Agritech Centre is a funded project that will greatly benefit the state. He emphasized that the project will provide young people in Oyo State with the opportunity to develop innovative solutions for agriculture, leveraging technology to increase productivity and production.

The UK Agritech Centre brings a wealth of expertise to the table, with 300 members from the private sector and academia. Their focus is on delivering science and technology-based solutions to enhance agricultural productivity in Nigeria.
