A distinguished Public Health Specialist and senior staff member of the Oyo State Ministry of Health, Dr. Abbas Olaniyi Gbolahan, has retired after 33 years of meritorious service.

Family, friends, associates, and colleagues gathered on February 25 at The Nest Event Center, Ibadan, to celebrate Dr. Gbolahan’s 60th birthday and retirement, honoring his decades of dedication to public health. The event was a testament to his impactful career and enduring legacy in disease prevention and control.
Throughout his career, Dr. Gbolahan played a pivotal role in the epidemiology unit, focusing extensively on the control of Lassa fever and cholera. His relentless commitment and expertise significantly contributed to the growth and improvement of public health in Oyo State.
Speaking at the event, the Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, MNI, praised Dr. Gbolahan for his humility and selflessness, wishing him a fulfilling and healthy retirement. She also commended the guests and dignitaries for coming together to celebrate his remarkable contributions.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, described Dr. Gbolahan as “a man with a large heart,” recalling their time working together and his immense contributions to the healthcare sector. She emphasized that retirement is a time to reflect on years of sacrifice and service, commending him for his exceptional dedication.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, lauded Dr. Gbolahan’s strong faith, hard work, and fear of God, offering prayers for his continued good health and long life.
In his remarks, Dr. Gbolahan expressed deep appreciation to everyone present and extended heartfelt gratitude to his family, especially his wife, for her unwavering support throughout his career. He urged young professionals to embrace diligence, commitment, and passion, emphasizing the importance of dedication in the medical field.
