The Oyo State Government has reiterated its commitment to fostering quality nursing education across all institutions of nursing in the state. This was emphasized by Governor Seyi Makinde during a visit by the accreditation team from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. The meeting took place in the conference room of the Ministry of Justice, Secretariat, Ibadan.
Represented by his deputy, Barrister Adebayo Lawal, Governor Makinde acknowledged the growing global recognition of nursing as a critical profession and stressed that it should not be undermined. He assured the Council that his administration is dedicated to enhancing nursing education by providing more facilities, resources, and manpower to support quality training. Furthermore, he highlighted plans to implement laws for the establishment of the College of Nursing Sciences, which will have multiple campuses across the state.
Earlier, the Chief Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, Dr. Farouk Abubakar, explained that the accreditation team’s visit was aimed at ensuring standards are maintained at all levels, and that competent and qualified nurses are produced in the state.
The accreditation team inspected the School of Nursing in Ẹlẹ́yẹlé, as well as other nursing and midwifery campuses in Kishi and Oyo town, to evaluate their compliance with the required standards and their readiness to produce world-class healthcare professionals.
