Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has affirmed his eligibility to contest in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking during a visit to Fashola Farm in Oyo Town on Friday, Makinde addressed speculations about his political ambitions, describing them as unnecessary and unsolicited.
Makinde emphasized that, as an experienced politician, he is fully capable of making decisions about his future without external pressure or interference. He stated, “I am old enough and experienced enough to speak for myself on any matter, including my political ambitions. If and when I decide to make any declaration regarding the 2027 elections, I will do so publicly and without hesitation.”
The governor’s statement has sparked discussions among political observers, considering his growing influence in Nigerian politics, particularly within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Makinde, who has gained national recognition for his leadership in Oyo State, is seen by many as a strong contender for higher political office.
Despite the speculation surrounding his potential presidential bid, Makinde remained firm in his stance that any future political move would be communicated directly by him at the appropriate time.
