The Oyo State House of Assembly has reinstated Honorable Olusola Oluokun, the suspended Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, following a resolution passed during today’s plenary session.
Hon. Oluokun had previously been suspended after a social media video surfaced showing him in an inappropriate context, sparking concerns about his conduct as a public officeholder. However, after an investigation by the Assembly’s Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, he was cleared of the charges.
Honorable Akintunde Olajide, representing Lagelu State Constituency and Chair of the Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, presented the committee’s findings to the Assembly. The report concluded that Hon. Oluokun did not intentionally post the video that led to his suspension. Additionally, it noted that he had shown genuine remorse, leading the committee to recommend his immediate reinstatement.
Several lawmakers, including Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, Gbenga Oyekola, and Hon. Olorunpoto Rahman, commended the committee for its thorough and prompt investigation. They also highlighted the suspension as a reminder for public officeholders to maintain professionalism in their conduct, both in office and in public.
Following a deliberation on the report, the House unanimously voted for Hon. Oluokun’s reinstatement. The Speaker, Rt. Honorable Adebo Ogundoyin, directed that the vice chairman, who had been acting as the executive chairman, return to his original role. In his closing remarks, the Speaker announced Hon. Oluokun’s reinstatement and urged all public officials to exercise caution and uphold decorum in their public conduct.
