At least nine people have been killed and four others critically injured following a violent clash between farmers and herders in Jigawa State.
The incident occurred in the Miga and Jahun Local Government Areas and marks the latest in a series of deadly confrontations in the region.
The violence began after a group of suspected Fulani miscreants reportedly stole a large quantity of hibiscus and other valuable items from a shop in Gululu village in the Miga Local Government Area.
Farmers, tracing the thieves’ footprints, confronted them in the Fulani settlement camp at Yankunama village, Jahun LGA.
Tensions escalated when the farmers were met with bow and arrow fire, leading to casualties on both sides.
DSP Lawan Shisu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the situation intensified when locals retaliated, attacking the Fulanis and setting fire to their homes in multiple areas of Miga and Jahun LGAs. Police personnel from both Miga and Jahun Divisions were deployed to restore order.
The Jigawa police headquarters confirmed the collection of nine bodies, which were transported to Jahun and Miga Hospitals, where a medical doctor also confirmed their deaths.
