The Imo State Police Command has launched a full-scale investigation into allegations of illegal detention, harassment, and extortion made by actor and journalist, known by his social media handle, Young C Entertainment. The accusations are directed at officers from the state’s Anti-Narcotics Unit and the Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri.
Imo State Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, ordered the investigation following a viral video in which Young C Entertainment detailed his ordeal. The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Henry Okoye, stated that the Assistant Commissioner of Police overseeing the IGP X-Squad has been tasked with leading the inquiry. The Commissioner assured the public that any officer found guilty will face disciplinary action in line with police regulations.
“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, has directed a thorough investigation into the viral allegations made by Young C Entertainment against officers of the Anti-Narcotics Unit and SCID, as circulated on social media. The investigation aims to establish the facts and ensure justice is served,” Okoye said.
The Commissioner also called on Young C Entertainment and his production crew to cooperate with the investigation by reporting to the IGP X-Squad in Owerri. The police reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens’ rights.
In a video shared by a social media user, Somto Okonkwo, Young C Entertainment recounted how he and his crew were harassed and illegally detained by officers from last Friday to Saturday. The actor claimed that after a search of their vehicle and finding no incriminating evidence, the officers demanded a N1.5 million bribe, accusing them of carrying counterfeit US dollars, which were movie props.
Despite identifying himself as a journalist and a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Young C Entertainment and his team were allegedly held for refusing to pay the bribe. He called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, Governor Hope Uzodimma, and blogger Martins Vincent Otse (popularly known as VeryDarkMan) to intervene urgently and address the wrongful detention.
