The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued Public Alert No. 041/2024, warning of the recall of Nivea BLACK & WHITE Invisible Roll-on Deodorant, 50ml, due to safety concerns identified by the European Union Rapid Alert System for Dangerous Non-Food Products (RAPEX) authorities. This alert was published on NAFDAC’s official website on October 31, 2024.
The recalled product, manufactured in Germany with batch number 93529610 and bar code number 42299882, contains 2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde (BMHCA), a chemical prohibited in cosmetics due to its potential harm to the reproductive system, impairment of fetal health, and skin irritation and burns.
NAFDAC advises importers, distributors, retailers, and consumers to exercise caution and vigilance within the supply chain to avoid importing, distributing, selling, or using the affected product. Individuals in possession of the affected batch should discontinue use and submit stock to the nearest NAFDAC office.
Furthermore, healthcare professionals and consumers are encouraged to report adverse events experienced with regulated products to the nearest NAFDAC office or through available channels, including pharmacovigilance@nafdac.gov.ng, NAFDAC’s e-reporting platforms ((link unavailable)), or the Med-safety application downloadable on Android and iOS stores.
