The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered and shut down an illegal wine production site operating from a residential building in Lugbe, Abuja. The facility was allegedly being used to counterfeit various imported wine brands, with preprinted date markings ready for distribution in local markets.
Led by Pharm. Mohammed Shaba, NAFDAC’s enforcement team legally accessed the property and discovered a range of already-produced wine products and packaging materials. Though the suspect was not present during the raid, NAFDAC has issued a summons for questioning to further investigate the matter.
Pharm. Shaba emphasized the importance of consumer vigilance, urging individuals to report any suspicious products or activities to the nearest NAFDAC office. “Public safety is our top priority, and we encourage consumers to stay alert. Reporting suspected counterfeit products can help us protect the public from potential health hazards,” he stated.
This latest action by NAFDAC underscores the agency’s commitment to combating counterfeit production and ensuring that all consumable products meet safety standards.
