Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has urged the newly-recruited officers of the Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) to contribute to the state’s development through diligent and dedicated service. In a press release signed by Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the Special Adviser (Media) to the Governor, Makinde emphasized the importance of not prioritizing personal enrichment over their duties.
During the passing out parade of 500 newly-recruited OYRTMA officers and the inauguration of OYRTMA Marshals at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iseyin, Makinde reiterated his administration’s commitment to worker welfare by approving a hazard allowance for OYRTMA officers effective August 1, 2024. He highlighted the necessity of enforcing traffic laws and ensuring public compliance, noting that the recruitment aimed to bolster OYRTMA’s capacity. The governor expressed gratitude to the 2 Division, Nigerian Army, for their role in training the officers and stressed the importance of discipline to prevent corruption.
Makinde assured the new officers of his administration’s continued support, pointing to the approval of their hazard allowance as evidence of his commitment. He emphasized the need for a peaceful, non-prolonged protest if necessary and encouraged the officers to serve with integrity and dedication. Major Adekoya Adesagba (rtd), the Executive Chairman of OYRTMA, detailed the careful recruitment process and introduced the new OYRTMA Marshals, who will support road safety and traffic management efforts in the state. The event was attended by various dignitaries, including former deputy governors, legislators, and traditional leaders, all showing support for the initiative.
