Makinde Reaffirms Commitment to Security at Armed Forces Remembrance Church Service

The Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering a safe, secure, and stable environment through continuous improvements to the state’s security architecture.

 

Governor Makinde made this known at the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Church Service held at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan.

 

As part of the activities commemorating this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the governor, represented by the Head of Service, Mrs. Olubumi Oni, joined Christian faithful in government at the special church service. The event was graced by military officers, including the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Obinna Onubogu, represented by Brigadier General BMG Martins, as well as representatives from the Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Police Force, and the Nigerian Legion, to honor the sacrifices of the nation’s fallen heroes.

 

In his message, Governor Makinde urged residents of the state to support the armed forces through prayers and to instill law-abiding values in their children to ensure lasting peace and stability.

The General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Major General Obinna Onubogu, expressed appreciation to the state government and stakeholders for their contributions to the programs marking the remembrance celebrations, acknowledging the importance of such support for the armed forces.

 

Delivering his sermon, the Diocesan of the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan, Most Rev. Williams Aladekugbe, underscored the significance of honoring Nigeria’s fallen heroes. He highlighted their dedication, perseverance, and sacrifices in preserving the unity and oneness of the nation, even in the face of challenges and persecution.

 

Special prayers were offered for Nigeria, Oyo State, members of the armed forces, and families of the fallen heroes.

 

The event, organized by the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, represented by Oba Kolawole Adegbola, the state Chief Judge, Justice Iyabo Yerima, represented by Justice Olayinka Adeyemi, Commissioners, senior government officials, the General Manager of BCOS, Mr. Goke Adelakun, and other distinguished guests.
