Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has been widely commended for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of pensioners in the state, ensuring the timely payment of pensions and gratuities despite the challenging economic climate in the country.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Honorable Ademola Ige, highlighted this during a recent interview. He stated that the board has successfully digitalized the pension payment system, eliminating the need for retirees to appear physically to receive their entitlements. This innovative approach is part of the state government’s efforts to streamline operations and provide more convenience for senior citizens.
Hon. Ige also emphasized the Oyo State government’s dedication to improving the quality of life for pensioners. He noted that, in addition to the regular pension payments, the state government has introduced monthly wage awards as palliatives to help cushion the effects of the current economic downturn on retirees.
As a former Special Adviser to the Governor on Culture and Tourism, Hon. Ige further revealed plans by the board to organize a seminar for prospective retirees. The seminar will focus on providing guidance on prudent financial management, helping them make informed decisions about their gratuity and pensions to ensure long-term financial stability after retirement.
These initiatives are part of Governor Makinde’s broader efforts to foster a pension-friendly environment and reaffirm his administration’s commitment to the welfare and dignity of senior citizens in Oyo State.
