The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has commended the collaborative efforts between the workers and the Oyo State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), emphasizing that this partnership has significantly contributed to the state’s economic progress.
Represented by Chief Bayo Lawal, the Deputy Governor, Governor Makinde made this statement at the NLC Secretariat during the official launch of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses donated by the federal government.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the NLC Oyo State Chapter expressed gratitude for the governor’s support, conveyed through the Deputy Governor’s presence. He also acknowledged the fruitful partnership between the state government and the Labour Congress. The Chairman highlighted the importance of launching the Southwest CNG buses, noting that the initiative addresses the economic challenges following the removal of fuel subsidies. He emphasized that the move was designed to benefit not only workers but also the general public.
The National Chairman of the NLC, Joe Ajaero, explained that the choice of Oyo State for the launch was strategic, given its status as the gateway to the Southwest. He also stressed the importance of implementing the new minimum wage and urged the Oyo State Government to honor its commitment in this regard.
