Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has established a committee to oversee the coronation and presentation of the staff of office to the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin. This significant event is set to take place on July 12.
The committee is headed by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mr. Ademola Ojo. Other notable members include the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, and the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Toyin Balogun.
This follows Governor Makinde’s earlier approval of the Olubadan-In-Council’s nomination of Oba Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland. The governor’s swift action in setting up this committee underscores the importance of the upcoming coronation ceremony, which is expected to be a grand affair reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Ibadanland.
The committee is tasked with ensuring that all aspects of the coronation are meticulously planned and executed, from the traditional rites to the modern ceremonial elements. This will include coordinating with various stakeholders, managing logistics, and ensuring the security and smooth flow of events on the coronation day.
The appointment of Oba Owolabi Olakulehin marks a new chapter in the history of Ibadanland, and the coronation ceremony is anticipated to draw dignitaries, traditional rulers, and citizens from all over, celebrating the continuity and resilience of Ibadan’s royal lineage.
