EXTENSION OF VOTING TIME IN AREAS WITH LATE COMMENCEMENT

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) continues to closely monitor the ongoing Edo State Governorship election from its situation room at the National Headquarters in Abuja.

Reports from our monitoring efforts indicate that while polls began on time in many polling units, there have been instances of delayed commencement in some locations. This was confirmed in a press release signed by Mohammed Haruna, National Commissioner & Member of the Information and Voter Education Committee, on Saturday, September 21, 2024, via the Commission’s official X account.

To ensure that no eligible voter is disenfranchised, the Commission reiterates that, in accordance with its Regulations and Guidelines, voting will be extended in all areas where the process started late. Voting will continue until the last voter in the queue who arrived at the polling unit by 2:30 p.m. has cast their vote.

Additionally, INEC has directed its Edo State office to ensure that, where necessary, there is an adequate supply of power from backup generators at the affected polling units and ward collation centers.
