Ilu Tuntun Business District: Makinde Promises Fair Compensation, Resettlement for Residents

The Oyo State Government, in its continued efforts to transform, develop the state into a major economic hub, has commenced sensitization of residents in Akinyele Local Govt Area on the forthcoming Ilu Tuntun Business District project. This project aligns with His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde administration’s vision for Oyo State’s sustainable economic transformation, as outlined in the Omituntun 2.0 agenda.

 

At a town hall meeting held on Thursday October 31, 2024 at the Akinyele Local Government secretariat, the Honourable Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Akin-Funmilayo Williams, represented Governor Seyi Makinde and highlighted the project’s significance.

 

In his words, he stated that the total land acquired dedicated for Ilu Tuntun Business District and other purposes were 3,149 hectares of land , out of this 1,717 hectares of land will be resettled for those around this place , while others that will be retained like Alabata, Olorisa-oko etc being the traditional town and villages are on total land size 833 hectares , while 598 hectares of Lands occupant will be resettled and adequately compensated.

 

“The Ilu Tuntun Business District project is designed to stimulate economic growth and development in Akinyele and Oyo State,” Mr. Williams said. “This project, alongside others such as the Railway, dry port, and circular road, will position Oyo State as a prime destination for business and investment.”

 

Governor Makinde reassures residents that their welfare and interests will be prioritized throughout the project’s execution.

 

In his further explanation, “we are starting the enumeration this Monday 4th November,2024, he assured the residents not to be panic, perturbed at the unprecedented development coming to their Local Govt but see it as a privilege for transformation, fair compensation and resettlement plans are assured for affected residents. Key highlights of the ilu tuntun business district project includes; Economic Development, Resident Compensation, and Infrastructural Development.

 

“The Governor also warned that the traditional rulers, community leaders and religious leaders should be at alert and be mindful of activities of land Grabbers that may wants to come and seize the avenue to cause chaos and unforeseen contingencies in the name of demolition and other scary moves.

 

The administration of Seyi Makinde is in order and committed to making Oyo State an economic hub, ensuring residents have access to essential facilities,” Mr. Williams added.
