Ibadan Stampede: Tearful Oriyomi Hamzat Declares ‘It’s A Day Of Silence For Me’ 

The founder of Agidigbo FM was in tears when he came out to address a teeming crowd that welcomed him back from detention.

Oriyomi who could not say much asked the supporters to return home.

“Today is a day of silence for me, thank you all, thank you all, please return home” he said to the well-wishers.

On Monday, Oyo State High Court in Ibadan granted the bail applications filed by Oriyomi Hamzat, the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola, and the Principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Abdullahi Fasasi.

The defendants were arrested over the ill-fated children’s festive party in December 2024 which claimed the lives of 35 children following a stampede at the Islamic High School, at Bashorun area, Ibadan.

The ruling was pronounced by Justice Kamorudeen Olawoyin of the Oyo State High Court, on Monday.

Naomi was granted N10 million bail with two sureties.

The court also granted Oriyomi and Fasasi N10 million bail with two sureties.

The judge ordered the suspects to deposit their passports with the court and barred them from granting an interview.

The defendants argued their bail applications before the court last Tuesday but the court later ruled that the defendants should be remanded in prison till today (Monday) for a ruling on their bail application.

The Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has insisted that the trio must face trial in the case.
