The Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade, has established a 15-member committee to oversee the distribution of federal government palliative grains, including maize and gari, allocated to the 33 local governments in Oyo State.
This directive follows instructions from Barrister Bayo Lawal, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State. The announcement was contained in a press release signed by Aderibigbe Yisahu Ajibola, Head of Media Unit for the Ibadan North Local Government Chairman.
Hon. Olufade, who will chair the committee, emphasized the critical importance of transparency and accountability in the distribution process. He urged committee members to ensure that the palliatives reach the intended beneficiaries without any form of bias or mismanagement.
“There will be proper monitoring to ensure that the grains are distributed accordingly,” Olufade stated.
The committee comprises representatives from various sectors, ensuring a broad and inclusive oversight:
1. Chairman of the Local Government (Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade)
2. Local Emergency Management Committee (DES)
3. Traditional Rulers
4. Department of State Services (DSS)
5. Nigerian Police Force
6. Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps
7. Faith-Based Organizations (JNI & CAN)
8. National Union of Local Government Employees
9. Nigerian Red Cross Society
10. Women Associations
11. Persons with Disability Groups
12. Youth Associations
13. Principals of Boarding Schools
14. Civil Society Organizations
15. Media
Hon. Olufade stressed adherence to the distribution template to ensure transparency and accountability, sharing it with various stakeholders for proper implementation.
The grains were distributed to the stakeholders at the premises of Ibadan North Local Government in the presence of key officials including Alhaji Akeem Olatunji, Head of Local Government Administration; Alhaji Alabi Lukman Kolawole, Director of Administration and General Services; Alhaja Najimdeen Qudrat; Mrs. Lala Olufunke, Head of Information; and others.
This initiative marks a significant step in the government’s efforts to support vulnerable populations during these challenging times.
