On Tuesday, the Oyo State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Coordinator, Comrade Odoba Abel Oche, paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government, Hon. Oluwaseun Olufade.
Hon. Olufade and the management team of Ibadan North warmly received Comrade Odoba and his delegation, which was introduced by the Oyo State NYSC Media Officer, Mr. Kola Oladele.
In his welcome address, Hon. Olufade expressed his pleasure at the visit, acknowledging its delay and expressing gratitude for its eventual occurrence. He commended Comrade Odoba for his contributions to the NYSC program in Oyo State, especially within Ibadan North, which he described as the “headlamp” of the state’s 33 local governments.
Hon. Olufade praised Mrs. Bola Obarinde, the Local Government Inspector for Ibadan North Main Council, for her dedication to the NYSC program. He reaffirmed his commitment to constructing a lodge for corps members and improving conditions for community development service (CDS) activities.
In his remarks, Comrade Odoba thanked Hon. Olufade for the warm reception and praised the beautification of the chairman’s office. The visit was detailed in a statement signed by Aderibigbe Yisahu Ajibola, Head of Media to the Ibadan North Local Government Chairman. Comrade Odoba congratulated Hon. Olufade on his electoral victory, commending his vibrant and intelligent leadership. He also appreciated the local government’s hospitality toward corps members and NYSC staff.
Highlighting Oyo State’s pivotal role in the NYSC scheme, Comrade Odoba recalled that Oyo was the first state to pay corps members a stipend of ₦15,000. He urged continued support from the local government, suggesting stipends for Local Government Inspectors (LGIs), Corps Liaison Officers (CLOs), and corps members. He also sought the chairman’s assistance in the ongoing construction of a 5,000-capacity hall at the NYSC orientation camp in Iseyin.
Alhaja Kudirat Nojimudeen, Director of Education and Social Services, praised both the NYSC coordinator and Hon. Olufade for their leadership, introducing ex-corps member Miss Mojisola Akinriande for potential employment due to her exemplary service. She also introduced another corps member, Miss Oluwalusi Oluwatosin, commending her dedication.
In response, Hon. Olufade pledged a ₦1 million donation towards the NYSC hall construction and approved stipends for the LGI, CLO, and corps members. He also promised to explore employment opportunities for outstanding corps members within the state.
Engineer Akeem Olatunji, Executive Chairman of Oluyole Local Government, lauded Hon. Olufade’s leadership, expressing their strong personal and political relationship. He committed to building a corps members’ lodge in Oluyole and mentioned that the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) would discuss further contributions to the NYSC hall project.
Mr. Akeem Olatunji, Head of Local Government Administration in Ibadan North, delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the NYSC state coordinator for his dedication to the corps members and local government.
The NYSC coordinator’s entourage included key officials such as Mrs. Omaji Margereth, Assistant Director of Deployment and Relocation; Mrs. Sylvia Oluwaseyi, Assistant Director of Community Development Service; Mrs. Kolade C.K., Ibadan North Zonal Inspector; and other officials.
Local government officials and political leaders present included Hon. Akeem Ayoade, Executive Vice Chairman of Ibadan North; Hon. Taiwo Adebola, Leader of the House; Hamdy Mustapha, Chief of Staff; and other prominent members of the Ibadan North management team.
