The Oyo State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Olayinka Joe-Fadile, has raised concerns over the increasing rate of illicit drug consumption among the younger population in Oyo State. Speaking during a radio program today, Joe-Fadile highlighted the growing trend of youths indulging in various harmful substances with little regard for the law or the consequences.
Joe-Fadile emphasized that the NDLEA is working tirelessly to combat the sale and consumption of these illegal drugs, which have become disturbingly common in Ibadan, the state capital. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to curbing this dangerous trend and ensuring that those involved in the drug trade are brought to justice.
The NDLEA commander also issued a stern warning to parents, urging them to closely monitor their children to prevent them from falling victim to peer pressure, which often leads to substance abuse and other social vices. He stressed that parental vigilance is crucial in the fight against the rising tide of drug abuse among the youth.
It is noteworthy that neurologist Dr. Temitope Hanna-Farounbi had previously cautioned against drug abuse during a separate appearance on Success FM’s current affairs program. Dr. Hanna-Farounbi underscored the severe health risks posed by the consumption of illicit drugs, particularly among young people, and called for greater awareness and preventive measures to address the issue.
The NDLEA continues to advocate for stronger community involvement and collaboration to tackle the menace of drug abuse and protect the future of Oyo State’s youth.
