Ibadan Airport to Handle 1 Million Passengers Annually

The Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan, is undergoing a significant transformation with the construction of a new terminal building. This expansion, spearheaded by the Oyo State Government (OYSG), will increase the airport’s annual passenger capacity from 100,000 to an impressive 1,000,000. This upgrade is a critical component of the state broader strategy to modernize infrastructure, boost economic activities, and enhance connectivity.

For years, Ibadan’s airport has played a crucial role in regional transportation, serving as a vital link for business and leisure travelers. However, the existing terminal is limited capacity has restricted its ability to handle growing air traffic efficiently. The new terminal is expected to change this narrative, positioning Ibadan as a more viable alternative to Lagos for air travel. With its expanded capacity, the airport will be able to accommodate more domestic and potentially international flights, easing the burden on nearby Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The upgrade aligns with the government’s vision to make Ibadan a key economic hub in Nigeria.
