As the nationwide protests scheduled for August 2024 approach, the Ibadan North East Local Government Council, led by Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo (aka O mu Yes), is urging parents to advise their children against engaging in violence that could lead to chaos during or after the protests.

In a statement issued by the Council’s Information Officer, Ikeoye Oyetoro, the Chairman reminded the public of the devastating aftermath of previous protests, noting that many individuals are still struggling to recover from the damage. He emphasized that protests should be peaceful and not an excuse for theft, demolition, or troublemaking.

“Whatever we destroy during protests will ultimately harm us,” Hon. Akintayo cautioned. “Instead, let us use protests as an avenue to express our grievances to the government in a peaceful and constructive manner.”

The Chairman appealed to residents of Ibadan North East, including those in Rose Wale, Oje, Iso Gate, Agugu, Abayomi, Underbridge, and other areas, to avoid any actions that could disrupt the peace in Oyo State.

The Council Boss noted that “all government-owned properties are essentially our inheritance, funded by taxpayers’ money, and we should not allow outsiders from other states or local governments to come and destroy our property in Ibadan North East LG.”

Furthermore, Hon. Akintayo stressed the importance of ensuring that the protests remain peaceful and do not become an opportunity for looting or causing more hardship for the common man, who is already suffering. “We must not complicate their situation by stealing from ourselves or destroying government infrastructures, which can set us back in terms of infrastructural development,” he added.

He also emphasized the importance of conveying messages to the government without resorting to chaos or violence. “Let us focus on expressing our grievances peacefully and constructively, ensuring that our voices are heard without causing harm to ourselves or our community.”

He concluded by praying for God’s continued blessings on the country.
