Two children of Alhaji Aliyu Idris Ibrahim, a prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) member and former chairman of Zaria Local Government in Kaduna State, have been abducted by gunmen.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening at Kwarbai in Zaria town, as the children were returning home from their Islamic school (Islamiyya) around 5 p.m. Their whereabouts remain unknown.
A family friend, Tahir Abubakar M, confirmed the abduction via a post on X (formerly Twitter). He shared:
*”Inalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. Yesterday, after I dropped off their uncle, he called to inform me that the children had been kidnapped on their way back from Islamiyya. These children are the kids of the immediate past chairman of Zaria Local Government.”
Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, have so far been unsuccessful, as he has not responded to calls or messages regarding the incident.
The abduction highlights the ongoing insecurity challenges in Kaduna State, where kidnappings for ransom have become frequent, often targeting prominent individuals or vulnerable groups. Further updates are expected as investigations continue.
