Governor Seyi Makinde has called on farmers, agricultural institutions, academics, researchers, fabricators, and commodity groups to collaborate and share vital information on seed and agricultural improvement requirements with the Oyo State Government. The Governor emphasized the importance of synergy in achieving sustainable agricultural growth and food security in the state.

Represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye, Governor Makinde made this appeal during the resuscitation and inauguration of the Oyo State Seed Coordinating Committee, held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Ibadan. The committee is tasked with overseeing seed sector policy implementation, ensuring that best practices are adopted to enhance agricultural productivity across the state.

In his remarks, Governor Makinde highlighted the state government’s commitment to improving the agricultural sector. He announced that the government has approved the recruitment of extension workers and veterinary officers to provide model service coordination. This initiative is expected to boost crop and livestock yields, thereby advancing the state’s goal of achieving food sufficiency.

The Governor further stressed that the newly inaugurated committee would play a critical role in facilitating the dissemination of updated agricultural research and technology, which will enhance the quality of seeds and agricultural practices in the state.

Delivering a goodwill message, the Chairman of the Oyo State House Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, Honourable Peter Ojedokun, reiterated the state’s commitment to enforcing the anti-grazing law, a critical element in maintaining peace and ensuring the smooth operation of farming activities.

The event was well-attended by various associations and stakeholders in the agricultural sector, all of whom expressed their support for the state’s renewed focus on agricultural development and seed sector reforms.
