The Oyo State government has clarified Governor Seyi Makinde’s recent comments regarding a Supreme Court judgment, which he believes has created a legal gap. The governor aims to highlight potential weaknesses in the constitutional provisions that need attention.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Olanrewaju Sulaimon, addressed these concerns during a radio program in Ibadan today. He emphasized that Governor Makinde’s intention is to ensure that constitutional integrity is maintained and that any ambiguities are resolved to prevent future legal challenges.

Additionally, Sulaimon addressed issues related to the new Olubadan chieftaincy declaration law and the governor’s directive for the Oyo Mesi to initiate a new process for selecting the next Alaafin. He assured the public that these actions are in line with legal and traditional protocols.

“The governor is committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that his administration is not seen as endorsing any form of illegality. Governor Makinde is deeply concerned about being judged by posterity for approving any actions that could be considered unlawful,” Sulaimon stated.

This clarification comes amid public concerns about the governor’s recent directives and legal interpretations, reinforcing the administration’s dedication to transparency and adherence to legal standards.
