Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigeress, has suffered a setback in the latest International Basketball Federation (FIBA) rankings, released today. The team plummeted four places, dropping from 39th to 43rd position globally, marking a significant decline in their international standing.
In terms of points, D’Tigeress garnered 299.7 during the period under review, a decrease from their previous tally. This slide has also impacted their continental ranking, with the team now sitting in sixth place in Africa.
The top five teams in Africa are:
1. South Sudan (23rd globally) – 433.9 points
2. Côte d’Ivoire (35th globally) – 341.9 points
3. Angola (36th globally) – 339.9 points
4. Tunisia (38th globally) – 329.9 points
5. Egypt (40th globally) – 324.9 points
D’Tigeress decline may be attributed to their recent performances in international competitions, including the FIBA World Cup qualifiers and the AfroBasket tournament. The team will be looking to regroup and regain their footing in upcoming games to climb the ranks and reclaim their status as a top contender in African basketball.
