The Federal Government has announced the dismissal of employees holding certificates from unaccredited private tertiary institutions in the Benin Republic and Togo. This action affects graduates from these institutions who obtained their degrees between 2017 and the present.
Segun Imohiosen, spokesperson for the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, confirmed the development on Wednesday. According to Imohiosen, the move is part of a broader initiative aimed at sanitizing the country’s civil service and ensuring that only qualified and properly certified individuals hold public positions.
In August, the Federal Government disclosed that only eight universities in the Benin Republic and Togo had been accredited to award degrees to Nigerian students. It also issued a directive to terminate the employment of civil servants with unverified or unrecognized degrees from these countries. This recent enforcement reflects the government’s commitment to upholding standards and maintaining the integrity of the public sector.
