Federal Government Unveils New Leaders for 111 Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges

The Federal Government has officially released the names of the newly appointed Pro-Chancellors, Chairmen, and members for the Governing Boards of 111 federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. This announcement comes 11 months after the boards were dissolved by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

 

The comprehensive list includes a diverse group of technocrats, politicians, and traditional rulers, and spans 50 federal universities, 37 polytechnics, and 24 colleges of education. These appointments are part of the government’s efforts to enhance the governance and administration of higher education institutions in the country.

 

Among the notable appointments:

 

1. **University of Lagos (UNILAG)**:

– **Chairman of the Governing Council**: Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Wole Olanipekun.

– Olanipekun is a renowned lawyer with extensive experience in legal practice and academia.

 

2. **National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN)**:

– **Chairman of the Governing Council**: Former Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda.

– Yuguda brings a wealth of political and administrative experience to his new role.

 

Other key appointments include:

 

– **Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO)**:

– Appointments include seasoned academics and industry experts aimed at fostering innovation and research.

 

– **Ahmadu Bello University

 

– **Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria**:

– The new board includes individuals with significant contributions to education and public service, ensuring a blend of academic and practical perspectives.

 

– **Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti**:

– The governing board comprises professionals from various fields, aimed at enhancing the institution’s technical education and training.

 

– **Federal College of Education, Kano**:

– The board includes traditional rulers and educational experts, reflecting the institution’s commitment to cultural and academic excellence.
