The Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Gbenga Elegbeleye, has officially announced that the 2024/25 NPFL season will kick off on August 31, 2024. Elegbeleye made this confirmation during an appearance on the sports radio program “Lori Papa,” where he also took the opportunity to praise Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde for his significant contributions to sports development in the state.
Elegbeleye particularly commended Governor Makinde for his efforts in the rehabilitation of both the Lekan Salami Stadium and Liberty Stadium, highlighting the governor’s commitment to improving sports infrastructure in Oyo State. He noted that these renovations have positioned the state as a key hub for football and other sporting events.
Furthermore, Elegbeleye revealed that the NPFL is in advanced talks with Air Peace, a leading aviation company, to secure a 50% discount on transportation costs for referees traveling to match venues across the country. This initiative, he explained, is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the welfare of referees and ensure that they can easily travel to games without financial strain.
As the new season approaches, Elegbeleye assured fans and stakeholders that the NPFL is dedicated to raising the standards of Nigerian football and providing a more exciting and professional league experience.
