The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and well-known celebrity barman, Cubana Chief Priest, whose real name is Pascal Okechukwu, have reached an agreement to resolve the naira abuse charge outside of court.
This decision came to light during the resumption of proceedings on Thursday, where it was revealed that both parties had opted for an out-of-court settlement.
Okechukwu had previously been brought before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on three counts related to the abuse of the Nigerian currency, including spraying and tampering with the nation’s currency during a social event. These actions were alleged to be in violation of the Central Bank Act of 2007.
In a previous development, the Federal High Court in Lagos State had granted Okechukwu bail in the sum of 10 million naira, with two sureties required to stand in like sum.
Now, with the decision to settle the matter out of court, the legal proceedings surrounding the case are expected to take a different course, marking a significant development in the ongoing legal saga involving the celebrity figure.
