Education is a critical tool in building communities and attaining national prosperity. In Oyo State, Dr. Akande Kazeem Babatunde has been at the forefront of philanthropic activities focused on education and youth empowerment. Numerous projects and empowerment initiatives have been conducted in his name, alongside organizations that share his dream of building a society where everyone has access to education.
Dr. Akande initiated a well-coordinated tutorial program across the ten wards in Ido Local Government. The tutorial classes are held at various locations, including ATM Building Eleshinmeta, Leo Community High School Oloko, Saint Michael Owode, Community High School Bako, United Secondary School Omi Adio, Saint John Secondary School Omi Onigbagbo, Community High School Bakatari, Community Primary School Lasokun, Community High School Apete Ayegun Apete, Akufo High School Akufo, Community High School Ido, and Community High School Ologuneru. The program aims to assist senior secondary students preparing for their SSCE and UTME examinations. Over 700 students benefit from these tutorials weekly across 12 centers in Ido Local Government.
The effectiveness of these tutorials became evident when the UTME examination results were released. Despite a reported mass failure by JAMB, where only 24% of candidates scored 200 and above, more than 10% of students from Dr. Akande’s tutorial program scored above 200. Dr. Akande commended the students and everyone involved in achieving this feat. He emphasized his commitment to ensuring access to education, announcing that all students who scored above 200 in their UTME examinations will be invited to a meeting to discuss further academic support. He assured that measures would be in place to assist students in gaining admission to their chosen institutions or finding alternatives.
In addition to the tutorial program, Dr. Akande provides annual IT empowerment opportunities, where students can learn ICT skills before furthering their education. He has committed to ensuring that the tutorial program continues, offering support for students preparing for Post UTME and other external examinations.
Dr. Akande concluded by reiterating his commitment to supporting education as a means of youth empowerment. He noted that his efforts align with the initiatives of the Governor of Oyo State, Oluseyi Makinde, and the Omi Tuntun 2.0 agenda.
