The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a statement clarifying its role in the enforcement of third-party insurance policies. According to the statement signed by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force does not issue third-party insurance, contrary to misconceptions circulating on social media.

Instead, vehicle owners are responsible for obtaining this mandatory insurance through their respective insurance companies. The NPF’s role is solely to enforce compliance with the insurance policy, which aims to enhance road safety and protect the rights of accident victims.
As of February 1, 2025, the Force has commenced enforcement operations, and motorists are advised to ensure they have valid insurance coverage to avoid fines, penalties, or embarrassment. The NPF cautions social media influencers and activists against spreading misinformation, emphasizing the importance of accurate information to prevent misleading the public and potential legal repercussions for motorists.
The enforcement of third-party insurance is part of the NPF’s efforts to strengthen road safety measures and ensure compliance with insurance regulations among vehicle owners. Motorists are encouraged to cooperate with the police and obtain valid insurance coverage to avoid any issues.
