A chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State and Special Adviser to the Governor on Federal Constituency Matters, Hon. Dare Adeleke, has commended Rep. Abass Adigun Agboworin for his meaningful contribution to a debate on insecurity, a major issue in Nigeria.
Hon. Adeleke, who was also the former Chairman of the Oyo State Pacesetter Transport Service (PTS), described Agboworin’s bold move and courage to proffer workable solutions as brilliant and impressive.
In a statement personally signed and made available to journalists in Ibadan, Adeleke noted that Agboworin, being a former military personnel, brought a unique perspective to the debate, which was also supported by other lawmakers.
“The people of Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency are proud of Agboworin’s representation in the green chamber of the National Assembly,” Adeleke stated. “I was thoroughly impressed by his motion to increase military personnel, which was successfully passed, and struck by his passion and conviction.”
During the plenary session, the House debated and adopted a motion of urgent public importance moved by the lawmaker representing Bakori/Danja Federal Constituency of Katsina State, Abdullahi Dabai. Agboworin argued against hiring foreign military mercenaries, suggesting that young military officers who were forcefully retired could effectively address the security situation.
“I don’t think that the way to go is for us to engage foreign military mercenaries. Some young military officers were forcefully retired a few years ago. These young men can deal with the situation. They can get the job done,” Agboworin argued.
His perspective and arguments were well-received by his colleagues, leading to the House’s decision to explore internal solutions to the insecurity challenges facing the nation.
