Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has claimed that substandard petroleum products are being imported into Nigeria and sold to unsuspecting consumers.
Dangote made this assertion on Saturday during a visit by the leadership of the House of Representatives, led by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and his deputy, Benjamin Kalu, to the Dangote Refinery in Lagos State. He called for an investigation to uncover potential saboteurs in the oil sector or to determine if there are ulterior motives aimed at demarketing his business.
The billionaire businessman suggested that the best way to verify the quality of imported petroleum products is by purchasing and testing them directly from filling stations. This, he believes, will reveal whether the products meet acceptable standards.
In response to allegations by Farouk Ahmed, CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, that products from the Dangote Refinery are substandard, Dangote firmly refuted these claims. He asserted that his refinery’s products are of superior quality compared to imported alternatives and adhere to the highest industry standards.
Dangote’s remarks highlight ongoing concerns about the integrity and quality of petroleum products in Nigeria, urging greater scrutiny and regulatory oversight to protect consumers and ensure fair competition in the market.
