Olori Ashley, the wife of His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, recently took to Instagram to announce the birth of their son, who she proudly referred to as the Crown Prince. Her heartfelt message expressed deep gratitude and shared intimate details about their journey:
“To God be the glory, great things He has done for my husband and me. I am overjoyed to re-announce, alongside my husband @ooniadimulaife, the birth of our precious royal son—the Crown Prince and heir to the throne of our forebears. Our son was born today, September 3rd, 2024, at Princess Royal Hospital in London, United Kingdom.
Reflecting on the past decade, Olori Ashley acknowledged the trials they’ve endured, stating, ‘Despite the enemies that have tested our relationship over the years, Olodumare has remained steadfast in His faithfulness to us. Last year was particularly difficult, as we mourned the loss of our twins at just 14 weeks. Yet, in His infinite mercy, Olodumare has blessed us with a son, a double Crown Prince who carries the lineage of both his parents.’
She emphasized the significance of their son’s birth, noting that he is not only a prince by virtue of his birth but a Crown Prince from both sides of his lineage—the Giesi ruling house and the Lafogido ruling house—two of the four royal families that can ascend to the throne in Ile Ife. ‘Ose Olodumare, history has once again been made, not only through me but through our beloved son and Crown Prince of the Source of Oodua. Modupe Olodumare, mo ma roju ire re laye mi,’ she concluded.
However, the announcement has ignited conversations and debates online, particularly regarding Olori Ashley’s use of the title “Crown Prince.” This title has raised eyebrows, given that the Ooni of Ife already has a son, Prince Tadenikawo, with his estranged wife, Prophetess Naomi, who is also recognized as a Crown Prince.
Social media reactions have been mixed. One user commented, “We will not hear word on this Crown Prince matter. Also, which enemies attacked you for over a decade? Rather, you might have been the one causing trouble in another woman’s marriage, as he was still married at the time. I guess people like you made the marriage hell for his first wife, just as you did with Naomi. Anyway, congratulations and welcome, Prince.”
Another added, “This kind of announcement does not align with royal protocols. Such a personal, public statement seems out of place and doesn’t reflect the standard of communication expected from the royal household.”
Despite the buzz surrounding the announcement, the palace has yet to issue an official statement regarding the birth of the new prince or address the discussions about the use of the “Crown Prince” title.
