Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, the chairman of Ibadan Northeast Local Government, has launched a one-day medical outreach program for senior citizens, marking the beginning of his second term with a promise fulfilled.
The free medical initiative provided a range of health services, including blood pressure checks, blood sugar level tests, urine tests, tuberculosis screenings, treatment of minor ailments, and distribution of medications. This comprehensive program aimed to address the immediate health needs of older residents in the community.
During the event, Hon. Akintayo emphasized his administration’s commitment to the well-being of the elderly, recognizing their invaluable contributions to the community. He highlighted the importance of maintaining the health of the aged population, stating that the council plans to regularly organize similar health programs.
“Healthcare is fundamental to democracy because only healthy citizens can make well-informed decisions about their governance,” Akintayo said, underscoring the critical role of health in civic engagement.
The outreach program saw a large turnout, including members of the traditional council, National Council of Women Society (NCWS), Community Development Council (CDC), market and religious bodies, pensioners, and legion members, among others.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the initiative, praising it as a “wonderful program” and praying for the continued success and progress of the council. This event not only provided essential health services but also reinforced the council’s dedication to supporting its elderly population.
