Codeine Bust: NDLEA Intercepts 7 Containers with Over 1 Million Bottles at Onne Ports

In a significant crackdown on illegal drug importation, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a shipment of seven containers carrying over one million bottles of Codeine, valued at over nine million naira. The contraband originated from India and was seized at the Onne ports in Rivers State.

Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja, confirmed the interception in a statement. The operation, conducted on Thursday, July 18th, marks the fourth and final installment of similar consignments that have been monitored by the Agency’s Maritime Special Operations Unit Targeting Team.

This latest seizure follows a significant bust just three weeks prior, where the NDLEA confiscated over six thousand cartons of codeine syrup containing one million and fifty thousand bottles, valued at over seven million naira, at the Port Harcourt Ports complex in Onne, Rivers State.

The interception of these shipments underscores the NDLEA’s ongoing efforts to curb the influx of illicit drugs into Nigeria. The agency’s vigilance and strategic operations are critical in combating drug trafficking and ensuring public health and safety.
